Paths

In the midst of what I would call a "transition phase" in my life, I quite often ask myself what I should do moving on, from now on, in this new phase of life/environment?

Having slowed down my performing career quite drastically to pursue my degree in jazz performance and composition was one of the scariest and yet most rewarding things I have ever done for myself in life. Soon after graduation, personal situations propelled me and my partner to relocate ourselves Melbourne, Australia.

I think it would be reasonable to say that most fresh graduates are nervous about what they would do after school. As a late bloomer and adult learner, my struggles were rather different. My questions about next steps were (less about survival but) inspiration and purpose driven (although survival constantly plays on my mind also. Well, with a mortgage and bills to pay, duh!). But I was tired of running the mill, doing the same old things, and feeling stagnant in my ability to express myself as an artist.

Enter the BIG MOVE to Australia! I have been here mostly, (I still do return to SG quite often for gigs ) since April 2018 and the weather (winter - my least favourite season) persuades me to stay indoors most of the time. I've had a lot of time to ponder about next steps... Its a big big world out there... they say the world is your oyster, but at 38 that oyster looks more like an anadara clam (aka "see ham" to Singaporeans). So while I am still contemplating next steps, what's up next for me etc etc... I've decided to do what I always do, and that is TRUST MY INSTINCTS. Allow the wonderful and fruitful life lessons I have learnt so far to be my beacon and I know somehow I will find my place in this new phase/place.

Not one for quotes much anymore but one I heard today felt really good so decided to share it. So here it is:

"As you grow older, different things become more important. And the humanity of life is the great guiding light." - David Letterman.
